A 200-year-old haunted doll that was stolen from a museum mysteriously made its way back only two days after it was taken.
The creepy object, also known as Emma’s doll, has been linked to haunting for a number of years and belongs to the Waipu museum in New Zealand.
According to Fiona Mohr, the manager of the museum, the doll with piercing eyes is often called creepy and haunted and could easily be worth $3,000.
Before the doll was stolen, it was kept in a glass dome. “The thief yanked the doll out damaging it scalp in the process,” Fiona revealed in an interview with Daily Mail Australia.
As she added, a volunteer working at the museum spotted that the doll was missing after noticing a lock of her hair on the floor.
Taking the matter to the internet, Fiona explained that the doll was stolen and asked people for help in tracking it.
While no one knew where the doll could be, people quickly suggested that the doll will contact them or return to them on her own because it’s haunted.
“The doll will be contacting them before the museum does,” someone wrote.
“Hope she haunts the people who stole her,” another one suggested.
Two days after the incident, Fiona checked the mailbox after getting a strange feeling that the doll had been returned. And when she opened the mailbox, she was amazed to find the doll in it.
“It was there wrapped in a bread bag. It was damaged,” Fiona said. “A surgery had been performed on her to fix a leg and an arm using duct tape.”
It is not yet clear who stole the doll or why it was returned to the museum.
As the museum manager went on to explain, the doll belonged to Emma MacKay, a 3-year-old girl who emigrated to New Zealand during the gold rush.
