Robert Lacey appeared on Good Morning Britain to discuss his book and explained why he believes the Duke and Duchess of Sussex still want to be associated with the royal family.

The couple, who just welcomed their newborn daughter Lilibet Diana, stepped down from their royal duties to enjoy a quiet life.

“The point is they will never cease to be royal,” Robert said on the ITV breakfast show.

“We will never cease to think of Harry as Diana’s son, and William’s brother. At the end of the day, that’s the interest they hold for the rest of the world and I think that actually is a reason for hope in the future.

“They are never going to want to cut themselves off because frankly if they do cut themselves off, one wonders whether Netflix would want to renew their contract.”

The royal author also claimed that the unveiling of the statue of the late Princess Diana would help William and Harry reconcile.

His new revised book claims conversations and negotiation after Prince Philip’s funeral were not true. He also suggested that the brothers had already been on bad terms for some time even before the Duke of Sussex stepped down as a senior representative.

According to the book, the brothers have had a bitter row that led to the evident rift.

Robert said the unveiling of the statue of Diana could help change things.

“Apparently nothing came of it once they got inside, certainly the report that they had a big family sit-down was sadly denied by both sides,” he said.

“You just showed Gayle King, their friend, talking on television. I think the feeling was when it came to the Oprah interview, as ghastly as it was with all these family revelations being aired, that was it.

“The feeling was you can’t have a serious family negotiation if it’s going to be talked about on American television the day afterwards. This would make things a problem.”
