The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will not return to the UK for the festive season even though they received an invitation to join the Royal Family, royal sources have claimed.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are also expected to miss Queen Elizabeth’s annual Christmas lunch, which is expected to be held at Windsor Castle as she continues to recover from a back sprain that caused her to miss the Remembrance Sunday service.
According to a royal source, Meghan and Harry turned down the invite as they want to avoid further media coverage.
“There’s a lot that goes into the logistics and the planning of the family Christmas, so of course, staff know that Harry and Meghan are not coming. If they were, they would have communicated it to their family by now,” the source said.
“But this is Her Majesty’s first Christmas without her husband, so one would have hoped they would want to be with her.”
This year is Her Majesty’s first Christmas without her husband Prince Philip after he passed away in April.
During Christmas, the Queen is usually joined by Prince Charles, Camilla, Prince William, and Kate Middleton at Sandringham.
The last time Meghan and Harry were at Sandringham for Christmas was in 2018.
This comes as the Duchess of Sussex made an appearance on the Ellen show.
In the video released before the broadcast, Meghan reminisced about being a struggling actress who would go to auditions in a car with broken front doors that she couldn’t afford to fix.
The video may raise fears in Buckingham Palace that she may be about to launch another attack on the Royal Family.
