A pet owner has spoken out after losing all trust in a cable company because one of their employees stole her 10-month-old pup from her backyard.
21-year-old Melissa Cortez was shocked when her beloved Andrew the pug went missing. After checking footage taken by her neighbor’s security camera, she was even more shocked to find out that her pooch was taken by a cable guy.
After the pup went missing, Melissa kept on looking for Andrew restlessly. Despite visiting all local shelters and asking people if anyone saw anything, the 21-year-old was left with no clue about her dog’s whereabouts.
Fortunately, Melissa’s neighbor offered help and shared footage of his security camera with the worried dog owner.
As footage revealed, a Spectrum cable guy approached Melissa’s house in a van and entered the backyard before stealing the pug and driving off.
“I was angry and upset at first, just thinking that someone took him, but to see someone who people usually trust to be in their homes felt like an even bigger violation,” the girl said in an interview with The Press-Enterprise.
After Ms. Cortez failed to report the theft via the company’s automated telephone system, she handed over the case to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department. She also shared the disturbing recording on social media and warned other people.
“As part of its support of the Riverside Sheriff’s investigation, Spectrum security has recovered the dog and has returned it to the owner,” Spectrum spokesman, Dennis Johnson, said after the incident went viral.
