Six people tragically died and many others were wounded after a gunman opened fire at a grocery store in Colorado.
Officers from the Boulder Police Department said that the incident happened before 3 pm at a King Scoopers grocery store located at 3600 Table Mesa Drive.
“ALERT: Active Shooter at the King Soopers on Table Mesa. AVOID THE AREA. PIO is en-route,” Boulder authorities wrote on Twitter.
Shoppers were filmed lying motionless in a car park after the gunman opened fire in the supermarket.
Police responded to reports of a shooter and two cops were seen escorting a man wearing only underwear with blood running down his leg.
It was not clear if the man, who was taken to a hospital, is the suspect.
A video showed officers and law enforcement vehicles gathering outside. There were also at least three helicopters on the store’s roof.
Around 5 pm, Boulder police wrote on Twitter: “Please avoid the area of Table Mesa & Broadway! This is still a very active scene. Do NOT broadcast on social media any tactical information you might see.
“We will continue to tweet updates as we have them. If you live nearby please stay inside for now.”
45 minutes later, the police said: “Emergency notification just went out: Boulder police asking people near 17th and Grove to shelter in place while they respond to report of armed, dangerous individual.
“PD is investigating to determine if this is related to King Soopers shooting.”
A man who was shopping at the store said to KCNC-TV that he heard “one loud bang, thought somebody just dropped something an employee or something, and then another, and then by the third one, everybody was running.”
Another customer told KCNC that his family was inside the pharmacy at King Soopers when the gunman entered the store.
“I got the call from my daughter and my grandchildren that my son-in-law walked into the pharmacy for him to get a Covid-19 shot and the shooter came in, shot the woman in front of them.”
The man and his family hid in a closet for an hour until they were rescued.
