Authorities in Pennsylvania plan to file criminal charges against a lady who intentionally coughed on food worth more than $35,000 that had to be discarded and thrown away in what grocery store owners call a coronavirus prank.
The police department shared a statement on Facebook where it said that Hanover Township Police Department would investigate the incident at Gerrity’s Supermarket, 2280 Sans Souci Parkway, where a woman intentionally contaminated meat, merchandise, produce for sale.
They added that the suspect has now been identified and is being examined at local hospital for mental health evaluation. She will be fined with criminal charges.
The co-owner Joe Fasula at Gerrity’s shared the incident through a Facebook post revealing that while there was not any doubt that woman was doing so as a prank but they would not take any chance with the well-being and health of their customers.
Joe said that the woman had coughed on the items in bakery, grocery sections, and meat case of the market.
He added that fifteen staff members had to clear the mess as well as dispose of the food. Joe noted that he was absolutely sick to his stomach regarding the loss of food.
He expressed that wasting food is always a shame but in these challenging times when numerous people are stressed about the security of their food supply, it was even more disturbing.
This incident appears to be latest on in the series of such hoaxes where some people are pretending to suffer from the coronavirus disease to cause panic.
This comes after a thirty-one-year-old man, Justin M. Rhodes, from North Carolina was arrested, as he went to Walmart and pretend to have coronavirus in his live-stream.
