Greta Thunberg, the teen climate change activist who inspired millions of people to partake in climate strikes, has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize once again.
17-year-old Greta Thunberg, the teen eco-warrior who was voted one of the most admired women in 2019, has another go at the Nobel Peace Prize after two Swedish politicians nominated her for the prestigious award.
Hakan Svenneling and Jens Holm, who are members of the country’s Left Party, have credited Thunberg for working hard “to make politicians open their eyes to the climate crisis.”
As the pair added, Ms. Thunberg said her contributions to the cause, particularly to “reducing our emissions and complying with the Paris Agreement is therefore also an act of making peace.”
The nomination follows after the 17-year-old lost the title to Abiy Ahmed, the prime minister of Ethiopia, in 2019.
Weeks before the nomination, Greta has once again made headlines after slamming the world leaders’ plan to plant one trillion trees in her speech for the World Economic Forum that took place in Davos, Switzerland.
While U.S. President Donald Trump remained firm in his skepticism about climate change during the meeting, he expressed he cares about the environment and pledged that the U.S. will join and support the initiative that plans to plant one trillion trees worldwide.
Despite the joint efforts to make our planet greener again, the young eco-warrior slammed the plan and had plenty to say to the world leaders in her emotional speech.
“We’re not telling you to offset your emissions by paying someone to plant trees in somewhere like Africa, while at the same time forests like the Amazon are being slaughtered at an infinitely higher rate,” she argued.
“Planting trees is good of course, but it’s nowhere near enough of what is needed and it cannot replace real mitigation.
“My generation will not give up without a fight. The effects are clear but they are still too uncomfortable for you to address. You just leave it because you think it’s too depressing. Our house is still on fire. Your inaction is fueling the flames. And we are telling you to act as if you loved your children above all else.”
