Greta Thunberg Fought Back Tears As She Called Out World Leaders For Climate Inaction

Greta Thunberg, the fiery environmental activist, made an unforgiving appearance at the UN Climate Summit, and broke into tears as she outrageously scolded the dignitaries in the summit.

“I shouldn’t be up here. I should be back in school on the other side of the ocean. Yet you all come to us for hope. How dare you. You have stolen my dreams and my childhood with your empty words,” said the 16-year-old environmental activist from Sweden while addressing the UN session.

Greta was seen in an angry mood at the UN headquarters in New York as Trump overshadowed her by walking in with a team of reporters.

The UN convened the summit to gather the nations for planning and implementation of practices to check the ever-increasing fossil fuel and global warming.

“There will not be any solution or plans in line with these figures here today because these numbers are too uncomfortable and you’re not mature enough to tell it like it is,” Thunberg said in her speech.

“You are failing us. The young people are starting to understand your betrayal. The eyes of all future generations are upon you,” she added.

“And if you choose to fail us, I say, we will never forgive you,” she continued, just about to lose it to tears.

“Right here, right now is where we draw the line. The world is waking up and change is coming whether you like it or not,” she said while responding to the overwhelming applause she received.

Thunberg kept no boundaries in scolding the world leaders and UN officers.

“You come to us young people for hope. How dare you?” she said in a roaring tone.

“You have stolen my dreams and my childhood with your empty words, yet I’m one of the lucky ones. People are suffering, people are dying, entire ecosystems are collapsing,” she continued.

Trump wasn’t originally scheduled to attend the summit as he’s hosting a session on religious persecution in the same building.

However, when Trump entered the hall, all attention was focused on him as he made it through the main lobby of the UN headquarters. All cameras and mikes were now focused on him.

Trump remained in the conference for around 15 minutes and then left.

The summit with the slogan ‘A Race We Can Win. A Race We Must Win’ was convened by Antonio Guterres, the UN Secretary General.

The aim of the summit was to mobilize all the available political and economic energy towards the solution of the issue of climate change.

The summit discussed topics like climate finance, energy transition, industry transition, carbon pricing, naturally available solutions and resilience.

Guterres suggested to end construction of new coal plants by 2020.

The UN is not being a part of it but France, China, Germany, India, Russia and 70 other nations will probably make announcements regarding the climate change issue soon.

In the summit, however, Guterres encouraged and praised young people like Thunberg for raising voice on the issue of climate change.

“My generation has failed in its responsibility to protect our planet. That must change. The climate crisis is caused by us, and the solutions must come from us,” said Guterres.

Thunberg continued her struggle for raising voice against irresponsible attitude of people and nations regarding climate change.

She, among 16 other kids from all over the globe, filed a complaint with the UN saying that the world’s top 5 economies have violated their human rights by not taking care of the planet like they should have.

The complaint, which was registered right after Thunberg’s outrageously emotional speech, nominated France, Germany, Argentina, Brazil and Turkey.

“The message that we want to send is that we’ve had enough,” said the young activist while presenting the complaint in the company of her peers.

In the complaint by the young activists, the five countries are charged for failing to utilize their resources ‘to prevent the deadly and foreseeable consequences’ of the ongoing environmental crisis.

The claimants further said that the countries made ‘inadequate’ efforts to minimize the emission of greenhouse gases. They said it is due to the actions of the accused countries that the global temperature is expected to rise two degrees Celsius.

A goal was set to keep the rise in global temperature below two degrees Celsius at the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement.

According to a UN science report released, the 80 per cent of all pollutant gases is being expelled by the G-20 and they have so far failed to meet the targets set to decrease the emissions.
