Our parents take care of us and protect us to give us a happy life but there comes a time when it is needed to return the favor.
When we grow up, we have to play the role of caregiver and give our parents the same love and protection to comfort them.
Some people decide to keep their parents in a nursing home because their house is not big enough but we don’t think it is a good idea. If you don’t have enough rooms in your home and thinking to shift your parents to old age home then please drop this idea and go for the Granny Pod.
The Granny pod is also known as the MEDCottage or in-law cottage, the tiny home is a portable hospital room designed by a Blacksburg, VA, company, with help from Virginia Tech.
They are designed to be installed in the backyard behind the main home. The tiny cottage is like a bungalow from the outside with room for a bed, living room space, kitchenette and bathroom. hand railings, defibrillators, first aid supplies, lighted floorboards and a soft floor to minimize damage from falls are the standard safety features of this home.
According to MedCottage website: ‘’The MEDCottage is a mobile, modular medical dwelling designed to be temporarily placed on a caregiver’s property for rehabilitation and extended care.
Simply stated, it’s a state-of-the-art hospital room with remote monitoring available so caregivers and family members have peace of mind knowing they are providing the best possible care.Close proximity is so important when keeping family engaged in our life.
This solution provides a beautiful dwelling close to the people we love.’’
The size of a spacious master bedroom is about 12 by 24 feet and it also features double French doors and to accommodate wheelchair facility and hospital equipment if ever needed.
Financial planner Carolyn McClanahan told CNBC, “If people can age in place and age at home it’s much healthier, and the family is happier, but it can be very expensive. Granny pods can cost anywhere from $100,000 to $250,000. So you got to weigh longevity in there with it.”
