For more than a year, Cam Dedman from Louisville was secretly working to restore the beloved car of his grandfather – a 1957 Chevy Bel Air.

The car had been sitting in the garage since 1976 and restoring it to its original condition was nearly the same as bringing life to a dead.

However, Dedman spent day and nights on the vintage beauty and ended up rebuilding it to even better than the original.

“He’s my best friend and truly deserves it,” Dedman wrote on his Facebook.

“This was so hard to complete let alone do it with out [sic] him knowing. I saved up for years to do this even sold my personal car to help fund parts for the car. It all is worth it though for my Grandpa!”

Dedman planned to complete the work before the 81st birthday of his beloved grandpa, Fred Lamar.

And although both the men often talked about restoring the car, they never got a chance to work on it because Dedman would tell Lamar he is “really busy now.”

He finally brought the car out of the garage for his grandpa to see in January this year.

Dedman drove his grandparents in his car, stopped at his sister’s home where he was to unveil the surprise, and blindfolded them before the big moment.

And when he removed the blindfolds and his grandpa saw the ruby-red car standing before him, the old man simply couldn’t believe his eyes and burst into tears!

“I didn’t expect his reaction to be so dramatic,” Dedman told InsideEdition. “Honestly, he almost passed out. I had to hold him up. His legs gave out. He said, ‘There’s no way that is my car.’”

“That was their family car,” Dedman said. “They drove it every day until 1976. Their kids, my mom, rode in it.”

It was definitely the best ever birthday present for Lamar.

“I just couldn’t believe it,” Lamar told TODAY. “He’s one special grandson, I’ll tell you.”

Following the incident, Dedman thanked all the social media users who had been following and supporting him on Instagram throughout his journey.

“[I] want to thank you all for such positive feedback. I’m [sic] so grateful that it has inspired so many others and spread kindness around this world!!” he wrote.

He about passed out. I (Cam Dedman) have been doing a full frame off restoration and build of this car a big surprise…
