Grandparents were left surprised when they found out that their 23-year-old pilot granddaughter was flying them to Palma, Spain for their holiday.
23-year-old Laura Gibson, from Derby, who is TUI Airways’ youngest pilots, surprised her grandparents and the heartwarming video has now gone viral.
Grandparents Pat, 79, and Ray, 83, boarded the plane at East Midlands Airport to fly to Palma, Spain for their holiday.
Little did they know, it was their granddaughter Laura who would be flying them.
The video shows the grandparents boarding the flight and seeing their granddaughter standing there in a pilot’s uniform. Their reaction is priceless!
According to DailyMai, Laura said: “My Granny didn’t even recognise me at first. She was very polite when she said hello, then realised it was me and gave me a huge hug! It was such a special moment.”
Laura said it was actually her parents’ idea to give her grandparents a surprise as they visit Grupotel Playa Camp De Mar twice a year.
Pat said: “We are unbelievably proud of Laura’s career as a pilot. We just think she’s absolutely amazing.”
The heartwarming video received thousands of likes and comments. One user wrote: ‘congratulations what a wonderful experience it must have been for you all’.
Another wrote: ‘You must be so very proud of her’ while the third one wrote: ‘Surprise of their lives…….’.
Laura said her grandparents have been ‘living and breathing their proud grandparent moments’ since she started flying.
Laura started flying when she was just 18 years old.
She worked for another airline previously but it didn’t have the mobility facilities Pat and Ray need.
After joining TUI in November, she decided to surprise her parents. She asked TUI Airways rostering team if she could operate the special flight to Palma and they agreed.
