In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, hundreds of millions of people around the world were told to social distance and self-isolate at their homes.
Two seniors who were also told not to go outside their house are 81-year-old Ray and Theresa from England.
Since they’re terribly missing their family during self-isolation, their great-granddaughters came to visit them and bonded with them through a glass door.
While physical contact was not an option during the visit, the great-grandparents appeared to be over the moon as they saw 3-year-old Florence and 1-year-old Edith.
Speaking of the couple’s decision to obey the orders and self-isolate despite their love for their family, Ray told The Daily Mail that going out isn’t an option due to his wife’s underlying health conditions.
“Some people are being laissez-faire about it, but we are not. With my wife’s health, we cannot be. Besides, we see it as our duty to not put an extra strain on the NHS if it is avoidable,” Ray told The Daily Mail.
To surprise her grandparents during their self-isolation, 30-year-old Vickie brought her two daughters to see them “not in defiance of their self-isolation, but in a way that would get [a]round it.”
“I told them to get the phone, I’d Facetime them and chat that way. So that’s what we did. For an hour my girls played,” Vickie told The Daily Mail.
“Florence showed off her alphabet and wrote her name for them. I said ‘let’s draw a sunshine so Nanna feels warm’ and Florence drew a big sun. We had a lovely time. Nanna and Granddad were still in their dressing gowns — I’d interrupted their breakfast — but they drew their chairs up and just watched.
“We had the phones on speaker and just chatted away, like we normally would. We couldn’t give them a big hug, but the girls could put their hands to the glass.”
As the granddaughter added, their visit was a huge success and they’re going to do it again despite feeling “a bit sad” that they had to watch the grandparents through a window.
