A sweet grandpa came to his granddaughter’s rescue after learning the 17-year-old didn’t have a date for prom.
And thanks to the old man, the California teenager’s high-school milestone turned into an adorable family memory!
The heartwarming story was shared by Kaylah Bell on social media.
“My papa knew I didn’t have a date to my prom so he matched me!!” the Lancaster High School student wrote on her Twitter last Sunday.
The duo put on matching dresses: 67-year-old Alvin Hackett wore a blue pinstripe suit with a pink tie and pocket square, while Bell donned a patterned pink, blue, and purple gown with a purple cape.
The internet also loved the adorable pair, with one Twitter user calling Hackett “dapper af,” adding, “I really hope I age this well.”
Another person said of the images: “We should all aspire to be this suave.” Bell was also praised by the users, with people saying “you look beautiful” and “this dress is gorgeous.”
Some of the comments said the teenager was “fine as hell” and “that’s why no Man is worthy Enough to be her date.”
Speaking about the difficulty she faced while finding a prom date, Bell told Yahoo Lifestyle: “I was talking to some people, but they all flaked out.
“It was really hard to find someone to commit to being my prom date.”
However, the young lady wasn’t a bit worried as she knew her grandfather was always there to help her.
“My grandpa was the only one that I knew would dress to impress,” said the high school senior, who will be attending Azusa Pacific University in the fall.
“So, I had asked him to take pictures with me.”
Hackett, who’s a church pastor, didn’t face any problem with dressing, thanks to his well-rounded wardrobe.
“My grandpa is very stylish,” the 17-year-old said, adding how Steve Harvey has always been her grandpa’s fashion inspiration.
“Every Sunday when we go to church, him and my grandma dress alike and dress together for church and banquets.”
Bell tried to dress like Mary, Queen of Scots, and was helped by her grandparents in getting the material required for her dramatic custom cape, including the diamonds.
“I’m sure he already had a suit in his closet and put it together because he knew what my dress looked like,” the teen told Yahoo Lifestyle.
“The matching suit and corsage was all his idea.”
Their adorable photos are now doing the rounds on the internet, and have received more than 100,000 likes and over 12,000 retweets.
“Everyone was in awe,” Bell said of the reaction the duo received at the prom. “People were like, ‘You guys are so cute.’ Everyone knows my grandpa is important to me.”
“I felt blessed,” she said. “A lot of people don’t get to have opportunities like this. For my grandpa to be happy and eager to do it was amazing to me. I felt extremely loved.”
