Steven Romero, 6, went to the Gilroy Garlic Festival in Northern California with his family on July 28.

Unfortunately, that was the last event that he would see as he was shot when someone opened fire during the festival.

His mother and grandmother were also injured but are expected to survive, according to KNTV.

Steven had just celebrated his 6th birthday last month and was preparing to start going to school this fall. His family members were left shattered after the shooting incident that injured many people.

Maribel Romero, the boy’s grandmother, said to KABC-TV that she drove from hospital to hospital looking for her grandson after hearing that he had been shot.

But when the time she found her 6-year-old grandson, it was too late.

“It has to be someone really sick,” Maribel Romero said of the gunman. “Because shooting a kid — it’s a family event.”

The shooter injured 15 people and killed three before police shot him dead. It is believed an accomplice may have been involved.

“I just hope there is justice and they catch the last person or the other person and that there’s justice. I want justice for my grandson,” Maribel added.

Albert Romero, Steven’s dad, was at home at the time of the incident.

Last month, he took his son to Legoland to celebrate his 6th birthday. But now, they have to prepare for a funeral.

“There’s nothing I really can do besides try to be with him until I can put him in his resting spot, wherever that is,” the heartbroken father told KNTV.

“My son had his whole life to live and he was only 6. That’s all I can say.”

Rest in peace, Steven!
