Grandmother Faces 12 Years In Prison After Leaving Her Granddaughter With Permanent Scars


A 50-year-old grandmother has been sentenced to 12 years in jail.

Gretta Feil, who reportedly left her granddaughter with permanent scars by scalding her in the shower, learned her fate one month after pleading guilty to two counts of aggravated battery.

Feil, also known as Gretta Wilburn, was taken into custody after child services found out that her granddaughter had severe third-degree burns requiring surgery on her scalp, face, and genitals.

The girl had been living with Feil since April 2. According to Fox59, the grandmother was supposed to return the child and her brother to their parents but she claimed that state lines had to be closed due to the pandemic.

Feil’s neighbors at Kise Estates Apartments in Lebanon said that they heard loud cursing and screaming from her flat.

Cops responded to the apartment and took the child to an advocacy center before she was rushed to a hospital.

Doctors found bruises on the girl’s arms, shins, buttocks, thighs, and stomach, Greensburg Daily News reported.

Lab tests also showed internal injuries and bleeding under her skin, making it very difficult for the child to walk.

When questioned, the grandmother claimed that the girl had applied various lotions and creams to her skin.

After an investigation, it was discovered that Feil had forced her granddaughter under hot water.

According to documents, Feil also beat the girl with a wooden backscratcher.

Boone County Special Victim’s Prosecutor Heidi Jennings said in a press release: “This child suffered horrific abuse. Her physical scars are healing, and we hope that this sentence today helps the healing process for her emotional scars.”
