A grandmother told her daughter she has to pay her more if she wants her to look after her young son.
In an online post, a grandmother sparked a massive debate after revealing she demanded her daughter pays her $15 per hour if she wanted her to watch over her 1-year-old son.
As the grandmother, who was called “greedy” and “uncaring” by some after her post went viral, explained, she was asked to babysit her grandson two to three times per week.
After her daughter offered to pay her $10 per hour, however, she felt “low balled” and wouldn’t take the deal for less than $15 per hour.
Defending her decision, the grandma said she needed more money because looking after her grandson would mean she would have to give up her job.
“I am not a daycare, I need money to replace the time I am giving up from my job,” she explained.
After her post went viral, the grandmother was slammed by dozens of people who accused her of demanding an “outrageous” hourly rate to look after her own grandson.
While many suggested that the payment the grandma requested would get her daughter a professional babysitter, some defended the grandmother saying she simply couldn’t afford to quit her job for just two to three days of $10-per-hour work per week.
“Why does she have to step up to the plate – she would have made sacrifices to bring up her own kids, she shouldn’t have to do it again for someone else,” one person wrote.
