A grandmother interrupted her granddaughter’s zoom class and argued with the teacher about BLM and former president Barack Obama.
A video of the grandmother was shared on TikTok where she was branded ‘Zoom Karen.’
In the TikTok video, the grandma’s finger can be seen pointing at the screen as she raised her voice with children listening to her complaints. The teacher tried her best to calm the situation.
The teacher explained: “All we’re talking about are historical events.”
“No, you’re talking about BLM and all that stuff. And we’re not going to talk about it. Unless you want to hear what I have to say,” the grandmother said.
She also brought up Barack Obama for some reason.
“And Barack Obama was biracial,” she said. “He wasn’t just black. He should have owned both sides of his family.”
The teacher explained that they were discussing historical events.
“Ma’am, we’re reading a story about a historical event, and the question that was presented to the students is: ‘What’s the most important historical event that’s happened in your lifetime?’” she explained.
But the furious relative replied: “Well, how did BLM show up?”
The teacher then said: “Your granddaughter brought it up.”
It is not clear how or when the exchange happened and the grandmother hasn’t been identified.
The clip has been viewed more than 1.1 million times since it was shared on TikTok. The person who posted it captioned the video: “Found the Karen of Zoom class.”
One internet user commented: “Wow grandma, way to butt in when you have no idea what’s going on.”
Another wrote: “This isn’t bizarre, it’s been a wake-up call for many parents to see what their children’s teachers are preaching.”
A third said: “One interesting side-effect of teaching via Zoom is that parents may get a direct line into what is being taught.”
