A young girl’s feet were covered in blisters and burns after her step-grandmother dipped them into boiling water.
The horrific incident happened on August 11 when Jennifer Vaughn was babysitting 2-year-old Kaylee Robinson.
Brittany Smith, the child’s mother, said to ABC 2 that Vaughn admitted to using hot water on the toddler because she was ‘having a bad day.’
The step-grandmother has been charged with aggravated child abuse. She is currently held on a $150,000.
Smith has shared photos of her daughter’s feet with numerous media outlets.
Detective Rocky Potter who examined the photos said to ABC 2 that it was ‘the worst scald burns I’ve ever seen.’
The hospital where Kaylee is being treated described the injuries as ‘sock burns’ as it seems the girl was wearing pink socks when the incident happened.
Smith said to Metro that Kaylee’s injuries appear to be getting worse. “It’s terrible, it’s just so stressful. Kaylee has had two operations so far, but they haven’t worked. The skin is not really repairing itself in the way the doctors hoped it would. She’s in a lot of pain.
“They [surgeons] are going to take some skin from her thigh next week to try and repair her feet.”
The anguished mother also said that her daughter “is at high risk of infection and could end up losing her feet.”
Smith recalled: “’I could hear Kaylee screaming in the background. She said that I had to come home right away.”
But when she returned, Kaylee was still crying in pain. Vaughn initially claimed that she left the toddler alone in the bath before admitting she dipped the girl’s feet in boiling water.
“’It’s not right. There is nothing in this world that a two-year-old can do, no matter how bad they lashed out at you,” Smith said.
She also told Metro: “If I had my way, she would have the exactly same punishment given to her that she inflicted on my daughter. I would like someone to burn her feet just the same.”
