Grandmother Drifts Off To Open Sea After Sitting On An Iceberg To Pose For A Picture

People often go to great lengths to take pictures that perfectly fit in their photo albums.

While we’ve all been there and done that, one grandma took things a step further when she decided to pose for a picture on an iceberg.

During their trip to Iceland, Mrs. Streng sat on an isolated iceberg to pose for a picture. Little did she know, however, that her actions put her life at great risk.

Moments after sitting on her new throne, the iceberg began drifting away from the shore, resulting in the elderly woman getting washed out towards the open sea.

Fortunately, the dangerous situation was resolved after a boatman dragged the “iceberg queen” back to the shore. Thanks to the Streng family’s great sense of humor, we can now all have a good laugh looking at the pictures they have shared on social media.

Speaking of the incident, 24-year-old Catherine Streng, the granddaughter of real-life Elsa, said:

“She ascended the throne after a wave had pulled back and left it briefly exposed on the beach. Then a wave washed in and dislodged the ice throne, rocking it from side to side. When the wave retreated, it lifted the dislodged throne and carried her out with the tide.”

Speaking of the formal rescue involving a licensed water rescuer, Catherine’s father added:

“He just happened to be onshore when the whole thing occurred, so he waded out into the roiling water and pulled her off the iceberg as it drifted out to sea, supporting her until they reached the shore.”

After the incident, Catherine, who received the photos from her dad who is still on vacation with his mother, explained that what happened is “something that would happen to my family.”
