A 66-year-old woman and her beloved white dog were found in a Los Angeles park with multiple stab wounds on Thursday.
Jeanne Edgar and her pooch were both pronounced dead after 23-year-old Ricardo Saldivar attacked them in Lone Hill Park in San Dimas.
Joe Page, who saw the vicious and unprovoked attack, hit the man in the head with a huge rock until he fell unconscious.
In an interview with NBC Los Angeles, Page said: “I threw it as hard as I could and it hit him and he fell over. And at that point, I see a bunch of neighbors everywhere – people yelling.
“It was a horrific scene.”
The horrific incident occurred at around 1:30 om near the intersection of Renwick Road and Shellman Avenue when Edgar was walking her beloved dog out.
According to reports, Saldivar first approached Page but he managed to run away from him.
Page, in his 30s, told NBC Los Angeles that the suspect looked “deranged” and on drugs.
“He approaches me, and he says something along the lines of ‘I’m going to kill you.’”
Saldivar tried to stab him but Page managed to go back to his vehicle. That’s when the attacker approached Edgar.
Saldivar grabbed the dog’s leash from Edgar then started stabbing the poor creature. After killing the animal, he attacked the 66-year-old woman.
Page quickly jumped out of his car and hit the attacker with a rock.
Police officers arrived on the scene and found Edgar lying on the ground with multiple stab wounds alongside the body of her dog. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
“So many things were going through my mind,” Page told NBC. “I just wish I would have hit him with my truck.
“I wish she was still alive… I believe she’s in heaven now. We all tried to help.”
Saldivar was booked into jail on charges of murder and attempted murder, with a bail set at $2 million.
