A doting grandfather from Oregon, USA, has gone viral after purchasing a short school bus in order to be able to drive all of his grandchildren to the school at the same time and spend more time with them.
As Doug Hayes revealed, he bought the bus dubbed ‘Grandfather Express’ just in time for Christmas, much to the amazement of his ten grandkids.
“The kids have always said, ‘Gee whiz, I like our school, but we would like to be able to have a school bus,’” Mr. Hayes explained in an interview with KSBW.
Since taking kids to school snatched a lot of time off their parents’ schedule, Doug decided to take things into his own hands and come up with a solution that not only helps the parents but also gives him the opportunity to spend more time with his grandkids.
As Doug added, his routine is going to involve dropping off the kids at the school gates with the bus before switching it for his car and going to work.
According to the grandfather, the solution is much more efficient than driving them around in a car.
“It’s primarily about getting to spend a few minutes with them every single morning,” he added.
While Doug may appear to be solely responsible for the awesome transport solution, he insists that the ‘Grandfather Express’ wouldn’t come to life if it wasn’t for his wife who provided him with the idea and encouraged him to buy the bus.
After making the purchase, the grandparents also invested in a custom paint job to make the bus became more attractive while having new seat belts attached for children’s safety.
