When Charlie, an 11-year-old dog from South Carolina lost both his eyes because of glaucoma, his owners decided to get him a companion, sort of like his own “seeing eye” dog.

In 2016, Charlie’s owners Adam and Chelsea Stipe made a conscious decision to get his left eye removed after he suffered from glaucoma. However, things got worst and the pup lost his other eye soon after.

But now that the Charlie has a new pal to help him navigate the world, a 4-month-old puppy named Maverick, things are looking up for him.

Maverick joined the North Carolina based family in January. While the two had a rough start, as they did not get along well, things gradually changed and they have since become inseparable.

The two have become so close that Charlie relies on the puppy for almost everything from playing to eating. Sometimes, he even uses the little pup as a pillow.

According to Chelsea, Maverick would notice that Charlie would lose track of the toy during play time, so the helpful puppy would place it back in front of him to continue the fun.

‘They almost turn into little sled dogs where they’ll walk together,’ Chelsea also said of how the golden retrievers would support each other during outings.

Maverick isn’t the only new addition to the family. The dogs’ parents, Chelsea and Adam Stipe, recently had their first child, a baby boy. Now, Maverick is helping Charlie navigate his new role as a big brother. Hearing strange new baby squeals could be confusing for a blind pup.

The symbiotic dogs went viral thanks to a popular Twitter account, “We Rate Dogs.” The parody account, which always gives cute pups high ratings, gave the duo a 14/10.

In just three days, the dogs’ news Instagram account has gained more than 43,000 followers. On the account, Charlie and Maverick share updates on their lives, which usually consists of chewing toys together, and fighting over them, and then taking dog naps side-by-side.
