A GoFundMe campaign set up for the two sons of a Georgia spa shooting victim has raised more than $2 million in just 24 hours.
Three days after Hyun Jung Grant and seven others were tragically killed in a mass shooting in three massage parlors in Georgia, 22-year-old Randy Park launched a fundraising campaign and wrote a $20,000 goal for “basic living necessities.”
“This is something that should never happen to anyone. She (Grant) was a single mother who dedicated her whole life to providing for my brother and I,” Park wrote.
“It is only my brother and I in the United States. The rest of my family is in South Korea and are unable to come.”
Park’s post had been shared more than 66,000 times and people donated more than $2.4 million in just one day.
The overwhelming donations prompted the 22-year-old to write an update expressing his gratitude to everyone.
“I don’t know how any word I write here will ever convey how grateful and blessed I am to receive this much support,” he wrote.
“To put it bluntly, I can’t believe you guys exist.”
He described Grant as a “single mother who dedicated her whole life to providing for my brother and I.”
“She was one of my best friends and the strongest influence on who we are today,” Park continued. “Losing her has put a new lens on my eyes on the amount of hate that exists in our world.”
He was at home when he heard that a gunman had opened fire at the Gold Spa where his mother worked.
21-year-old Robert Aaron Long had been charged with murdering eight people on Tuesday. All victims have been identified as Yong Yue, 63, Suncha Kim, 69, Hyun J. Grant, 51, Soon C. Park, 44, Dao You Feng, 44, Xiaojie Tan, 49, Paul Andre Michels, 54, and 33-year-old Delaina Ashley Yaun.
