Simple acts of kindness can go a long way in making one’s day.
Fortunately, they usually cost you close to nothing and offer a lot in return. All one has to do to help those in need is step out of their comfort zone and offer a helping hand – or as per this case, a helping shirt.
While New York holds a relatively bad rep for being a metropolis that is no stranger to crime and people with wicked intentions, there’s certainly a lot of kindness hiding in the city as well.
As we see in the video below, a good Samaritan saved the day of an old homeless man who was shivering on the Brooklyn-bound train.
The man was half-naked and appeared very fragile and distressed. Since the frigid temperature at the time was as low as 45 degrees Fahrenheit, the condition of the old man was that more unfavorable.
But then, something extraordinary happened. A stranger walked up to the man, removed his shirt, and offered it to the old man. Since he couldn’t wear it on his own, the stranger also helped him put it on.
Moments after dressing him up, the good Samaritan returned with a black beanie and placed it on the man’s head.
After receiving these unexpected gifts, the homeless man appeared to be happy yet speechless. After all, it was probably also shocking for him to be approached by a total stranger and offered clothes.
Since poverty is a part of the cruel reality, may it be in the East or the West, knowing that there are people who care about total strangers is downright uplifting and inspiring.
The whole incident was filmed by another passenger, Lazaro Nolasco. He managed to capture the heartwarming exchange on his phone.
After posting the video on Facebook, it soon went viral and received millions of views. People praised the man for being generous and caring.
