Two girls, aged 10 and 18 months old, have been orphaned after their loving parents died in a car crash.
35-year-old Paula Bateman and her husband Robert passed away when their vehicle collided with another car on the A142 between Mepal and Chatteris in Cambridgeshire, England.
Their young daughters, 18-month-old Elizabeth and 10-year-old Lexi, were also in the Ford Focus when the incident happened after 8 pm on Thursday.
Lexi suffered serious but not fatal injuries while her younger sister suffered minor injuries. Both of them have since been discharged from the hospital.
According to Cambridgeshire Police, the 32-year-old van driver who suffered minor injuries has been arrested on suspicion of two counts of causing death by driving while unfit through drugs or drink, and dangerous driving.
A tribute for the family of Mr. and Mrs. Batemen described the couple as ‘utterly devoted parents.’
“We are utterly devastated by this news. Bob and Paula were much-loved friends to many and will be missed by everyone who knew them.
“They were also utterly devoted parents. Bob as a much-loved son and father, while Paula was a much-loved daughter, sister and mother.”
Anyone who witnessed the crash or has dashcam video is asked to contact the police, quoting incident number 478 of September 3.
