Two young girls, aged 14 and 15, were dragged into a forest where they were gang-raped by eight men for several hours.
According to reports, the girls knew the group of men and had gone out with them to celebrate Holi, the Festival of Love on Monday.
But the attackers, aged between 19 and 22, dragged the girls into a forest where they raped them until they passed out.
The victims returned home on Tuesday morning with serious injuries. They were rushed to a hospital where they continue to receive treatment.
After the girls explained what had happened to them, their heartbroken parents immediately called the police, leading to the arrests of Hrishit Debbarma, Michael Debbarma, Bimal Debbarma, Soyel Debbarma, Jagu Debbarma, Nishit Debbarma, Bikash Debbarma, and Biresh Debbarma.
“The accused took the girls to a forest and gang-raped them through the night. When they passed out, the men left presuming them to be dead,” a police officer said.
The attackers accused of gang-rape are set to appear before a magistrate.
One person commented: “What kind of parents are raising their sons to think this kind of behaviour is acceptable? Those poor girls.”
Another wrote: “Where are all the actors being loud about the abuse of women In this country, on sorry this country wouldn’t tolerate them so they stick to save causes and countries.”
A third added: “As long as some men see rape as sex, humanity is lost. Rape is a violent act against somebody’s will. Are an act against.”
Someone else added: “As an Indian myself I am ashamed to see this happening to young children I hope they rot in prison afer being sentenced, raping young children is a disgrace itself but to do it on festival occasion is low.”
