A teen tragically died after she jumped out of a moving vehicle while having an argument with her mother.
15-year-old Maddison Taylor was run over and killed after she jumped from the passenger seat.
Her grieving relatives said that the driver, who struck the teen before driving away, should’ve waited for emergency services to arrive.
Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzales said Taylor was hit by an unknown vehicle that immediately fled the scene.
The person driving behind the mother and her daughter told police that they swerved so they would not hit the 15-year-old after she jumped out of the car.
Taylor was pronounced dead at the scene.
Grieving family members told ABC 13 that the teen was an affectionate person even though she lived a difficult life.
Taylor’s cousin Denajah Love told ABC 13: “She didn’t really get to live her life. She didn’t get to walk across the stage. She didn’t get to go to prom. She didn’t even get to be in high school yet.”
The family is asking the motorist who hit Taylor to come forward, saying that they understand the incident wasn’t intentional.
“Whenever I found out about that, I was kind of angry because I get that it was not on purpose, it was an accident. But at least have the respect to wait there until an ambulance gets there or police get there,” Love added.
Another cousin Ja’kaiah Franklin is asking the driver to put themselves in the family’s shoes.
“It’s really hard, the whole scene of them leaving. It makes us angry basically because what if they were in the same shoe? They would want to know who hit their daughter,” she told ABC 13.
