A 13-year-old schoolgirl was rewarded $20,000 after finding an ‘ultra rare’ puffy Doritos chip.
Rylee Stuart made headlines after a video showing the air-filled chip went viral on social media.
The Gold Coast student immediately listed the rare chip on eBay and was inundated with bids of up to $10,000!
The auction was later removed from the site. But even though she won’t receive anything from eBay, Doritos has decided to reward the teen $20,000 for her ‘ingenuity’ and ‘bold entrepreneurship.’
Doritos Chief Marketing Officer Vandita Pandey said the company had enjoyed following her story of the puffy Doritos chip.
“We’ve been so impressed with Rylee’s boldness and entrepreneurial spirit, so we wanted to make sure the Stuart family were rewarded for their creativity and love for Doritos,” Pandey said.
The 13-year-old had listed the chip on eBay and later told her followers that the auction was just an experiment to see if it would draw any bids.
Speaking to 9News, Rylee said: “I was about to eat it but I thought I better save it for later.”
After checking the auction, she was shocked to find that her post was inundated with bids.
“I saw $10,000 and I like screamed,” she expressed.
“Dad is saying that since he bought the packet, it’s his chip, but I ate the packet and found it, so I believe it is mine,” she continued.
Just recently, a chicken nugget shaped like a character from the ‘Among Us’ video game was sold for $136,000.
One person commented: “Give it a few months and Doritos will be selling these.”
Another wrote: “OMG Honest to God, just today while making nachos, I pulled out a puffy Dorito!!!! We looked it at had a smile about it then….I ate it!!!!! Seriously, you’re telling me I ate thousands of dollars in a couple of crunches.”
A third added: “Why was the auction taken down? Give the girl the money from the auction.”
