A 15-year-old girl committed suicide two years after she was rescued from a sex trafficking ring.
Leticia ‘Letty’ Serrano was only 13 years old when she was sold to sex traffickers.
Her family told ABC13 that the teen couldn’t recover from her painful experience after she was kidnapped by a man and was sold to sex traffickers.
Even though she was rescued after her family found her near Houston, she became a completely different person.
“We got her back damaged,” her grandmother, Cynthia Rivera, said to the local outlet.
Her family also revealed that the teen even ran away from home two times to be with the kidnapper.
“She was a good student, good grades, quiet, kind of a loner, and her brother had just passed. She was a perfect target for them,” Rivera told Fox 26 Houston.
But one Saturday, Letty locked herself in the bathroom and ended her young life. Her dad, Mariano Serrano, found her.
“She died in my arms,” Serrano told Fox 26 Houston. “She wanted to be with him (kidnapper). But she also didn’t want to hurt her family.”
AS the father copes with the death of his 15-year-old daughter, he told the outlet that he wants justice.
“I want to see him in court,” he told Fox 26 Houston. “I want to tell him it’s his fault my daughter is dead.”
Letty’s grandmother, Rivera, wrote on Facebook: “Letty went through a horrific abduction in 2017 through a man who drugged her and trafficked her. With help of our community I was able to find her.
“When we got her back she was already broken and addicted at that point — the road to recovery was and is one of the hardest things for any child to overcome.”
Rivera said that the kidnapper was arrested and put in prison for only three days. He then went on to kidnap another 13-year-old girl.
“I ask you [to] help us and that her death does not go in vain. No news media. We as a community and the system failed this young lady and her family once, let’s not do it again,” she said.
