A 10-year-old girl who developed her passion for racing at the age of five has been racing professionals and reaching the speeds of 130 miles per hour as a part of her career.
Kayla Yaakov is a young motorcyclist from Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, who learned how to drive a motorcycle after watching her father, who is also a motorcycling enthusiast, competing.
“Being a girl racing is just the same thing, we’re all just competitors looking to ride and have fun,” the 10-year-old said in an interview with Barcroft TV.
“Most of my races I win are against adults. It’s pretty cool to be on the top step standing next to grown men.
“My dad raced for 15 years and I found out that he raced one day and I was like, ‘Dad! I really want to do this! This looks amazing!’
“So he got me a bike. At first I just rode it around the house. He took me to a track one day and he said, ‘You really want to do this?’ And I was like, ‘Yeah!’
“I don’t know how many races I’ve done. I’ve done too many. I mean not too many because I still like racing but I have done a lot of racing! Like I can’t even count how many trophies I’ve got from racing.”
As the girl’s father, Dave Yaakov, added, he loves watching Kayla race and serve as her mechanic and coach.
“She just wasn’t very good, you know, but she loved it so I was like, ‘Okay cool, this will be fun,’” the father said, recalling the moment his daughter decided to embark on a racing career path.
“I actually just enjoy watching her have fun. It didn’t take long – it within said two months she started being really competitive, winning here and there. Everything changed from there.”
Speaking of her unusual hobby, the ten-year-old added:
“My favorite thing about racing is the adrenaline and speed. It’s just so fun just to be out there and you are trying to push so hard to do it. The bikes I race, the fastest you could probably go is about 130 miles per hour.
“My dad is really important in my riding. He coaches me. He’s my mechanic. He is just the best because he helps me so much in this.”
