Kids have the purest heart, and this act of kindness proves that and made a huge impact on a police officer from North Carolina.
After the shooting at UNCC, with other passing of Mooresville officer Jordan Sheldon, the state of North Carolina has seen more than its share of tragedy lately.
So when Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Officer James Wolfe met a little girl whose name is Lily and her mother Nicole Morrison, he already knew the responsibilities and the challenges his job brings.
“I stopped to get some gas … went to go walk into the store, and a van pulled up and the lady driving asked if her daughter could speak with me for a moment,” Wolfe told WJZY, describing the night he met the 7-year-old.
Her mom told the officer that they paint “kindness rocks” and doing it for several years. Somehow, Lily knew that her kindness rock is the perfect thing what officer Wolfe needed.
He explained, she painted a thin blue line on one side. And on the other side, she has written the words “We’ve got your 6” shone in white letters. The phrase means “We’ve got your back,” according to WCNC-TV.
Her small act of kindness made the officer emotional and brought the tears into his eyes. Since that night, Lily’s kindness has gone viral. Officer Wolfe’s wife, even shared the whole incident on a Facebook post.
“As my husband was looking at it he told me he had to hold back the tears and he was so grateful for what this little girl had done,” Read wrote. “It made him feel good and appreciated just from this little girl and her rock.”
“My husband went to work with a smile and came home with one this morning,” Read went on. “He was very grateful just to get this rock and it touched his heart in many ways.”
“With everything going on recently, it really hit me pretty hard and I got a little emotional at the time,” Wolfe told WJZY. “The past week with the officer in Mooresville, and these other things going on, the shooting at UNC, and then you get a 7-year-old girl who hands you something to appreciate you, it just puts everything in perspective.”
Lily paint rocks continuously and spreading kindness and love. Morrison told WCNC-TV that they’d given Officer Sheldon a rock in the past, and mother and daughter watched his funeral procession and Lily moved to continue showing love and positivity.
“So wonderful to see our community come together today for the procession for Officer Sheldon,” Nicole wrote on Facebook, posting photos that showed several kids busy painting more rocks. “And these beauties came back and immediately started painting rocks to continue to spread love and support.”
