Joy Chinenye Azubike, a Nigerian writer, shares her story to the world after being invited to “TRIPLES WITH S-BUCHI” by Solomon Buchi Bartholomew.
She begins with her background, stating her name and how she is a single mother of three from a family of five. Talking about her abuser, their relationship had started when they were friends. They then transitioned to being boyfriend and girlfriend, but they had never met at that time.
He called the wrong number and she answered, stating that he hadn’t been himself after calling her. They met up during a vacation, picking her up and treating her well in the beginning. It was from then on that the situation had started to pick up.
During the trip that they planned, she had it set just two days before her birthday.point 175 | She had confessed that she would turn 18 the day after they were on vacation, commenting that she was a virgin.point 266 |

There was no one around to help because people knew that he was with her, celebrating her birthday. The girl even brought up their love in the midst of the argument, which resulted in him hugging her and apologizing.
It seems like it ended well, but the next morning he had his p*nis facing her, starting to touch her sexually until he came to a finish. After the situation, there was blood everywhere and the girl couldn’t restrain any of her screaming. The vacation ended and she flew back to her family.
She kept quiet at first, not wanting gossip to spread around because she wasn’t ready for the “Nigerian parents talk.” Instead of telling anyone about her situation, she felt that it was better to “die with it than talk,” resuming her school schedule after the vacation.
Azubike realized that she had missed her period, and he called to ask for her to abort the baby. There have been problems with abortion in her environment, and she did not want to risk her life because of it. She finally confesses to her pastor in order to take the next steps, in which he answers in disappointment. Once the news got around, the family started to accept him since there were good things that they could see from him.
They eloped, but there were difficulties since she was still a student. She was forced to defer her admission, try to come up with money for the new baby, and it was a never ending cycle for Azubike. She ended up losing her child in the process.
Thankfully, she got the chance to divorce him. She survived six years of torture.
