A 13-year-old girl died only a few days after she was involved in a fight with three other girls.
She was rushed to Texas Children’s Hospital where she was diagnosed with a brain tumor.
Kashala Francis spent three days on life support in the hospital after a horrific brawl with other students. Her family members confirmed the sad news on Facebook.
Before the teen’s death, her mom, Mamie Jackson, told KTRK that Kashala told her two girls from Attucks Middle School attacked her, which was recorded on a cellphone.
During the brawl, another girl joined and kicked Kashala in the head. She came home with a large bruise on her face but reassured her mother she was unharmed.
Two days later, she was at a relative home and seemed to be hallucinating. Her condition improved but the next day, she repeatedly complained of a strong headache.
When Jackson came back home, she was surprised to see her daughter laying down and telling her, “Mama, my head hurt.”
She immediately contacted 911 but by the time emergency services arrived, the teen had already slipped into unconsciousness.
Kashala was rushed to Texas Children’s Hospital where doctors found a large tumor in the back of her head and fluid accumulating in the brain.
It is not clear whether the injuries she sustained in the fight played a significant role in her demise. An autopsy will be done to determine the underlying cause and manner of her death, police said.
The Houston Independent School District said in a statement: “he district is aware that several Attucks Middle School students were involved in an off-campus altercation on Thursday.
“HISD is gathering information and cooperating with the Houston Police Department in its investigation.”
