A 1-year-old girl fell from an 8th-floor window at an apartment building in Southfield, Michigan.
The incident occurred at the Regal Towers on Franklin Road, near West 11 Mile road and the John C Lodge Freeway, according to ClickOnDetroit.
“But my question is — and so is everyone else’s in the building now — where were the mom and dad?” a neighbor expressed. That is the question on every resident’s head as the child would be safe if only someone was watching over her.
A neighbor, who wanted to remain anonymous, was inside their flat when the incident happened.
“We’re not even sure if that child is alive,” the neighbor expressed. “Somebody made the comment we don’t even think an adult could have survived that fall.”
Another neighbor saw the young girl fall and started asking other Regal Towers residents if their child was missing.
“When he went to their apartment, he knocked on the door and he said: ‘Y’all got kids. Your child just fell out,’” the neighbor shared after finding the girl’s parents’ apartment.
“They didn’t even know. They had no idea that it had happened.”
Everyone is hoping that the 1-year-old girl will recover soon.
“For me, it was one of those things that I’m trying to wrap my mind around. Trying to understand it,” the neighbor expressed. “You know, because I’m going to be thinking about this. How close they were and if this child is either dead or critically injured now.”
According to WXYZ Detroit, the girl was playing and went through the window. Her parents were at home when the incident occurred.
Southfield police continue to investigate the case.
