Some people are still convinced that it is a common courtesy for men to pay for the meal when going on a date with a woman.
While there is nothing wrong with doing so, one should not take advantage of this idea.
As times have changed and women are now equal to men, most guys believe that it’s only fair that women pay for their share of the food when going on dates.
One Reddit user nicknamed CuteBananaMuffin recently shared his experience involving a first date with a girl who is definitely the old-fashioned type.
The woman allegedly ordered a lobster and expensive wine without a second doubt. The problems, however, occurred when the bill showed up. The guy was ready to pay for his own food but refused to pay for the expensive $126 meal that his date ordered.
Days after their failed date, the guy messaged the girl once again to try to set up another date and apologize for leaving. However, he was in for a surprise when the upset girl responded.
After the incident, the disappointed student told Bored Panda that “the date was fun at first until she started talking about another guy and how much he liked him, but I thought ‘let’s eat, talk and leave’ since she’s into another guy, and it all crumbled when it came to the bill.”
“She was shocked that I let her pay. She didn’t say anything at the time, but from her facial expression I realized she was furious,” he added.
“I usually pay for both sides when it comes to the bill, but I’m a student and I work 60 hours a week to pay for food, books etc. so I obviously couldn’t afford to pay 110 euros for her food.
“I asked her out again to apologize pretty much for the previous time, hoping we can go to a cheaper place so I could make up for it, but as you can see, the result was really bad…”
