A young girl has tragically passed away while relaxing in a hot tub when her long hair got sucked into the filter and pulled her underwater.
According to the reports, the 10-year-old girl, who was from somewhere in Europe, was spending her vacation in Dubai together with her family.
She was found lifeless in the Jacuzzi just hours after asking her father for permission to relax in the hot tub.
According to Gulf News, the girl’s hair got entangled with the water filter that pulled her underwater and caused her to drown.
Following the incident and investigation, Colonel Ahmad Humaid Al Marri of the Dubai Police said that the father explained he rushed outside after “noticing her absence” only to discover her motionless body “pinned at the bottom” of the Jacuzzi.
“The young girl had asked for her father’s permission to use the hot tub, however, after some time her father noticed her absence and rushed to the tub to find his daughter motionless and pinned at the bottom of the Jacuzzi,” the chief investigator said.
As further inquiry revealed, the tragic death was a mix of girl’s long hair and an engineering flaw that allowed the 10-year-old girl’s hair to be sucked into the filter due to powerful swirls produced by the hot tub’s drains.
In an attempt to prevent similar incidents from taking place, the colonel also explained that hot tubs and other water bodies aren’t as innocent as they may seem.
“Yes, it’s easy for long hair, as well as limbs, jewelry, or pieces of a bathing suit, to become entangled in a swimming pool filter or drain, which is why children should always be taught to stay away from drains,” he added.
“Children should always be supervised around water bodies especially swimming pools, hot tubs and open beaches.”
