A 16-year-old girl and her 18-year-old boyfriend have been accused of murdering and trying to dismember her father as he had been against their relationship.
Sierra Halseth and Aaron Guerrero from Las Vegas were taken into custody in Utah pending their extradition back to Nevada where they face counts of murder in connection with Daniel Halseth’s death.
When firefighters responded to a report about a house fire in 8400 block of Dunphy Court on Friday afternoon, they discovered the father’s burned body.
The Clark County Coroner’s Officer identified the body as Daniel Halseth and police believe that he was stabbed to death before Sierra and Aaron set the house on fire.
Investigators said that the couple purchased a chainsaw, a handsaw, and a circular saw, and attempted to dismember the father’s body, ABC 4 reported.
The teens then stole the father’s vehicle and some of his cash then drove over 400 miles to Salt Lake City.
Police managed to get surveillance footage from many different stores, which show the teens buying the tools, bleach, and lighter fluid.
Guerrero and Sierra are set to be extradited back to Las Vegas where both of them would be charged as adults.
Halseth’s grieving family have released a heartbreaking statement to 8NewsNow.
“Our family is heartbroken this has happened to Daniel. We love Daniel beyond words. He loved his children and was an amazing father. We ask for privacy and respect for the family at this time,” it reads.
