Georgia just finished recounting the ballots in the state and confirmed president-elect Joe Biden’s victory.
Hundreds of President Trump’s supporters assembled outside the State Capitol in Georgia for a ‘stop the steal’ demonstration as the state was set to confirm that Biden won its electoral college votes.
Brad Raffensperger, the secretary of state of Georgia, said that a hand audit of ballots was complete and confirmed that Biden defeated Trump.
The audit was launched after unofficial results showed Biden was ahead of President Trump by around 14,000 votes.
It ended with Biden getting 12,284 votes, the Washington Post reported.
“The audit confirmed that the original machine count accurately portrayed the winner of the election,” Raffensperger said in a statement.
The changes to the totals were “well within the expected margin of human error that occurs when hand-counting ballots,” it added.
Jaclyn Rothenberg, Biden campaign’s communications director for the state, said that the recount results “simply reaffirmed what we already knew: Georgia voters selected Joe Biden to be their next president.”
Biden has accumulated 306 electoral votes while Trump captures 232 in the state-by-state Electoral College that determines the winner of the election.
But hundreds of Trump’s supporters alleged ‘widespread fraud’ that made Biden the winner in the state. Many chanted ‘Stop them masks,’ ‘We want Trump,’ and ‘do not steal the elections.’
Despite the claims by Trump, his legal team, and his supporters, there is no evidence indicating a fraud or conspiracy.
Raffensperger said he has “not seen any evidence of that.”
Trump’s campaign, who claims that there were fraud and irregularities in the states where he lost to Biden, can still request a recount in Georgia even after the results are certified as the margin of victory was less than 0.5%.
