As the creator of the popular TV series said, the finale of season 8 wasn’t “completely faithful” to what he envisioned, admitting that certain aspects of finalizing the series plot were quite “traumatic.”

“It can be… traumatic. Because sometimes their creative vision and your creative vision don’t match, and you get the famous creative differences thing – that leads to a lot of conflict,” Mr. Martin admitted in an interview with Fast Company.

“The series has been… not completely faithful. Otherwise, it would have to run another five seasons. You get totally extraneous things like the studio or the network weighing in, and they have some particular thing that has nothing to do with story, but relates to ‘Well this character has a very high Q Rating so let’s give him a lot more stuff to do.’”

Following the release of the 8th season of Game of Thrones, millions of angry fans demanded that the final season gets a remake.

In an online petition that gathered over 1.7 million signatures, the organizers wrote:

“David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have proven themselves to be woefully incompetent writers when they have no source material (i.e. the books) to fall back on.

“This series deserves a final season that makes sense. Subvert my expectations and make it happen, HBO!”

While Martin and the fans appear to be having issues with the final season, the stars of the show weren’t pleased with all the negative feedback.

“How I feel about the show right now is quite defiant. I think no matter what anyone thinks about this season – and I don’t mean to sound mean about critics here – but whatever critic spends half an hour writing about this season and makes their judgement on it, in my head they can go f*** themselves,” Kit Harington, who played Jon Snow, told Esquire.

“I know how much work was put into this. I know how much people cared about this. I know how much pressure people put on themselves and I know how many sleepless nights working or otherwise people had on this show.

“Because they cared about it so much. Because they cared about the characters. Because they cared about the story. Because they cared about not letting people down.”

Meanwhile, Kit’s co-star, Sophie Turner aka Sansa Stark, called the haters “disrespectful.”
