The incident was seen by six people at the annual FurCon (Further Confusion) in San Jose. These “Furries” are a group of people who celebrate stories and characters involving anthropomorphic animals that exhibit human traits.

Here’s what Ryans told CNN:

“We heard a woman’s screams coming from inside and saw the passenger throwing full fists at whoever was driving,”

“We got up and ran towards the car, my friend pulled open the door and we both held onto the attacker. The girl driver was yelling for him to get out, as he started trying to fight us off.”

What happened next was that four furries who were also at the convention came and helped get the man out of his car and hold him until the police arrived.

Once they knew the incident was under control, they all backed up and Ryans began filming what’s currently happening. That is the video that people are seeing on social media today.

When the police arrived, they were able to identify the man as 22-year old Demetri Hardnett. San Jose police arrested Hardnett and were booked into Santa Clara County Jail to answer for what he has done. CNN could not determine as of now if he has a lawyer.

Ryans told CNN:

“It all happened so fast, I still can’t believe it,”

“I’m so glad everything worked out in the end. It was a horrible sight to see. Afterward, we were very shaken up but relieved.”

For those people who are wondering, there is a growing community of “Furries” called the Furry Fandom. They are enthusiasts who celebrate fictitious animal characters that have human traits and organizes conventions to meet up and spend time together.
