Nearly nine million pounds of frozen meat products have been recalled over possible contamination with Listeria.
Fears over Listeria contamination were sparked at the Tyson Foods Missouri plant, whereas the company recalled 8.5 million pounds of products as a “precautionary step” to avoid potential exposure to the harmful bacteria.
Listeria monocytogenes is the bacterium that causes listeriosis, a serious and potentially deadly infection that is responsible for killing hundreds of people every year.
As Tyson Foods announced, the recalled products include those made at the company’s plant in Dexter, Missouri, between December 26, 2020, and April 13, 2021.
The recalled products concern Tyson meat packs as well as certain private label products by Jet’s Pizza, Marco’s Pizza, Little Caesars, and Casey’s General Store.

Fears over potential contamination of Tyson Foods products come after two individuals fell ill with listeriosis. Following an investigation by the Food Safety and Inspection Service, CDC, and other health partners, it was concluded there could be a link between the two listeriosis cases and frozen Tyson products.
“While there is no conclusive evidence that the products were contaminated at the time of shipment, the voluntary recall is being initiated out of an abundance of caution,” the company said in a statement.
Meanwhile, the FSIS urged people to avoid consuming the recalled products. Products affected by the recall should be discarded or returned to the place of purchase.
“Consumers should not eat these products. Institutions should not serve these products. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase,” the service stated.
