Old friends opened the time capsule they buried over 20 years ago when they were still in high school to find out whether their predictions came true.

Over two decades of living their own lives, Emma Page, Gemma Lynch, Gemma Albiston, Gemma Roughsedge, Sian McGreary, and Katy Wynne lost contact with each other.

One day, however, Emma remembered that the six girls buried a time capsule when they were just 15 years old and decided to talk to her friends to see if they were interested in opening it.

Besides personal items, the women also buried hand-written notes in which they attempted to predict their future.

22 years after the time capsule was buried, the old friends were reunited with the purpose of digging up the box and checking their notes.

“I got the idea from Blue Peter. We were in Year 10 at the time so we were coming to the end of our school time,” primary school teacher Emma said.

“So I thought it would be a good idea to do a time capsule to capture our memories as friends. We buried it at the spot we would usually meet up on a Friday and hang out.

“We actually agreed to dig it up 10 years after burying it and my mum kept the date on the calendar. It got to this year and I thought we had to do it now, otherwise, we are never going to do it. We took up some prosecco to celebrate and it was such an emotional day but in a good way.”

As it happens, the girls’ predictions were quite accurate for the majority of them. Gemma Albiston, who once wrote she would work with animals in the future, became a dog groomer while Emma became a school teacher as she had always planned.

In addition, Sian became an office worker while Gemma Lynch also drifted into teaching waters before becoming a nursery inspector.

“I am getting married next week and one of the girls had drawn a wedding dress which is pretty much identical to the one I’m going to be wearing,” Ms. Lynch said.

Speaking of opening the time capsule in which they found friendship bracelets, Gemma added:

“We used tools to get it open and eventually we got inside, we then cracked a bottle of fizz open, had some nibbles and reminisced all afternoon.”
