31-year-old Julia Tinetti and 32-year-old Cassandra Madison first met in New Haven, Connecticut, back in 2013 when they were working together at a bar.

After the pair realized they were both adopted from the Dominican Republic, they quickly became best friends and started doing everything from shopping to going out for drinks together.

“After that moment, we were so tight. We started hanging out. We would go out for drinks, for dinner. We started dressing alike,” Julia said in an interview with Good Morning America.

As time passed, the two friends were often told they not only act alike but also look similar, prompting Julia and Cassandra to start considering the possibility that they were related by blood.

After comparing their adoption papers and finding nothing, however, the pair gave up on trying to get to the bottom of their roots, whereas Cassandra eventually moved from Connecticut to Virginia.

Everything, however, changed in 2018 after Cassandra received a 23andMe test kit as a Christmas gift. After taking the DNA test, the 32-year-old was able to identify some of her relatives including one of her first cousins who went on to help her find her biological father.

As it was revealed, Cassandra’s birth dad was Adriano Luna Collado from the Dominican Republic. Her birth mother, Yulianna Collado, passed away in 2015.

Heartened by her discovery, Cassandra decided to fly to her native country and meet her biological family including her father who told her that he and her mother gave up on looking after her and another child.

As the woman told GMA, her father told her that he and his wife, who gave birth to a total of nine children, were going through rough times when they decided to put her and her sister up for adoption.

After finding out she had a biological sister who was also put for adoption by her parents, Cassandra urged her friend Julia to take a 23andMe test as well.

Once the results came back, Julia and Cassandra were in for the shock of their lives as they discovered they were biological sisters.

“This is the type of thing you see on TV. People who were adopted are now reaching out to us, which is really special. That, to me, [means] more than anything,” Julia expressed.
