Pregnancy is a time of joy when the whole family steps together, celebrates this miracle and helps to prepare the expecting mom for birth.

Nevertheless, as Skye Wickham from Citrus County, Florida, discovered, not everyone agrees with that point.

Skye, who is now 23 years old, and her boyfriend moved to Oregon where his family was living. After getting pregnant, the young girl was thrilled to become a mom. Despite all of the excitement, she felt bad about not being close to her mom, who remained in Citrus County, upon receiving the good news. Skye’s original idea was also to get pregnant once she was already married and had a stable relationship.

To make things even harder for her, Skye’s parents-in-law interfered and made her pregnancy far from what she was hoping for. Rather than supporting the young couple, they loudly expressed that they weren’t pleased with the news.

According to the parents-in-law, the baby would negatively affect their son’s life. They brought up the topic of abortion which “terrified” the expecting mom and put her in a pressured position. “I thought about it at first, but it went against everything I was raised with. I had my car with me and I was working, so I took my last paycheck and my brother drove us all the way back to Florida — and I was throwing up the entire way,” Skye told the Citrus County Chronicle.

Luckily, Skye’s mom and the local Pregnancy & Family Life Center were there to support her pregnancy and help her get through the hard times. This nonprofit organization also helped Skye connect with her baby and offered her an ultrasound free of charge.

“The world will tell us that a fetus cannot be considered a human being, but at the moment of conception that fetus is present with every characteristic and gene you are now. The ultrasound machine plays such a vital part in the Pregnancy Center because these women don’t have to take our word for it, they see it,” Pregnancy & Family Life Center executive director, Stephanie Bell, stated.

Fortunately, Skye was able to escape the oppressing boyfriend and his family and make it back to her home 3,000 miles away. Her endeavors were repaid, and on December 8, 2017, Serenity Raine was born.
