Stunning drone footage has revealed the beauty of the maze that was commissioned by Prince Charles at Dumfries House.

The Duke of Rothesay invested millions into the restoration of Dumfries House in East Ayrshire, UK, after the estate was left abandoned and put up for sale back in 2007.

Fortunately, the estate was saved by the heir to the throne who campaigned to convert it into public grounds for all people to enjoy.

The maze on the estate was finished three years ago and opened to the public during Prince Charles’ opening speech in which he said:

“I’m afraid to say I’m rather indulging in my childhood fantasy of mazes. There’s nothing more enjoyable than getting lost in a maze.”

The maze consists of 1,600 yew tree hedges that stand around eight feet tall, just high enough to give you the creeps when walking through them. It measures 50 meters in diameter and provides two gardeners with a full-time job to maintain it.

The project was completed by 30 craftsmen who took 17 months to design and implement the maze.

Speaking of the new addition to the estate, Gordon Neil of The Prince’s Foundation said:

“The Maze makes for a fun challenge for families visiting the estate and is particularly popular among younger people.

“As with everything here at Dumfries House, The Maze is inspired by the vision of HRH The Prince of Wales.

“The construction of it took just under a year-and-a-half and involved around 30 people, including many trainees of craft building skills.

“Those successful in solving the puzzle are rewarded by a shallow pool with a Japanese pagoda-style pavilion at its center, which offers an opportunity for reflection and to be in harmony with nature.”

So, did you manage to find the way through the maze yet?
