From Jaws to The Meg, plenty of scary shark attack movies have been taking over our screens and keeping people out of the sea for the last few decades.
To further freak you out, Japanese fishermen have recently shared pictures of a large, record-breaking great white shark they recently found after the massive beast began choking on a giant turtle.
“I was out commercial ‘Ken Ken’ style fishing for tuna when I heard chatter on the radio that there was a white shark swimming around with a big sea turtle in its mouth,” fisherman Greg Vella recalled.
“People started to joke about it, so I did not pay it any more attention. The next day, it was found dead, near the bait receivers, tangled in some netting.
“The captains I interviewed who saw the mighty shark the day before, said it looked close to death, as it could not dislodge the giant turtle.
“The commercial guys were bummed as white sharks do not bother their commercial fishing, and most certainly do bother the things that eat our catch.”
After removing the giant shark from the water, the fishermen found out the beast weighed a whopping 4,500 pounds and measured over 15 feet in length.
While the ‘catch’ was a record-breaking one in the region, this isn’t the biggest great white shark ever spotted.
As experts believe, one of the biggest great whites ever recorded is 50-year-old Deep Blue who was first spotted in Mexico around four years ago.
“It’s a very big white shark, obviously,” George Burgess of Florida Museum of Natural History said.
“One of the largest that has ever been seen in the water. I’m not sure it’s 20ft, I suspect it’s a little less than that. Perhaps 18, 19 feet, if I were to guess. She’s a big girl.”
