The firefighters have clashed with the police during a protest against low wages and pensions in the French capital on January 28.
According to the reports, the firefighters engaged in militant-style demonstration methods whereas the physical showdown between them and the police occurred after they have attempted to knock down security screens.
The anti-government protest that occurred in Paris is one of many demonstrations against the current French government, specifically President Emmanuel Macron.
As seen in the photos that began circulating the internet, the Republican Security Companies officers kept the protestors at bay by resorting to batons and riot shields.
“The firefighters were very militant, and at one stage tried to push down police barriers,” one of the eyewitnesses claimed.
“The police responded with tear gas, and then went in with their batons. The fighting got very ugly.”
According to the local reports, the violent protest took a turn for the worse around four in the afternoon when the demonstrators attempted to knock down the barriers set by the officers on Avenue de la Republique in order to continue with their march.
The protest was organized to stand up for the rights of firefighters all over the country, whereas the protestors demanded a raise in wages and a higher pension.
“It was unacceptable blocking of the ring road by certain professional firefighters who do not respect the declared route [of their march],” a Paris prefecture spokesperson said after the incident.
During the last few weeks, the demonstrators, also known as the Yellow Vests, have taken to the streets of Paris on several occasions to protest against Macron’s new pension reforms.
While the initial goal of the movement was to protest against rising fuel charges, the leaders now aim to push the president to resign.
