It was a truly heartbreaking scene to see; Chunkie, an adorable pitbull puppy, all tied up on a rainy and cold night in Sacramento, California.

Her owner was nowhere to be seen and she was fighting alone to stay alive.

Firefighter Mike Thawley knew that something needed to be done and he decided to take this poor, sick puppy from her neglectful home. He knew that Chunkie deserved a better life. He cleaned her up at the fire station and dropped her off at the Front Street Animal Shelter, where she received treatment from the loving staff. She suffered from mange, but the staff were able to help and even dressed her in some nice clothing to keep her warm!

Even though the two had only been together for a short time, Chunkie had become quite attached to her hero, Mike. When he had left after dropping her off, Chunkie instantly missed her friend and hero. The one person that was there for when she needed it most. She was visibly sad.

Amazingly, the next day Mike came back into the shelter to see how the little pup was doing and you will not believe Chunkie’s reaction to seeing him again. It is truly heartwarming.

Even Mike noticed that Chunkie had become very attached to him and now he is in talks with his family about fostering her. It is incredibly inspiring to see a puppy that was mistreated so badly become such a loving dog overnight.

This video is also great proof that pit-bulls, even when mistreated as puppies, can still be the most loving of dogs.
