A firefighter was left devastated after he rushed to his burning home only to find his wife dead in the blaze.
Corey Logan from Florida was working an overtime shift when he responded to a fire at his home. But by the time he got there, his wife was already dead in their bedroom.
According to the Miami Herald, Mr. Logan’s wife had long suffered health issues and could not escape the smoke and blaze.
It is not yet known what caused the blaze.
A spokesperson for the service Erika Benitez said: “At this time, out of respect for the family, we kindly ask for privacy as they are dealing with this tragic loss.
“We thank you for your patience and cooperation as we are focusing on supporting our firefighter and their family.”
Mr. Logan’s colleague, Christopher Morales, set up a GoFundMe page for the grieving worker, writing: “Shortly after lunch Corey’s life changed in a heartbeat.
“Shortly after lunch Corey received a Ring notification on his phone which showed a neighbor frantically banging on his front door which led him to believe something was wrong at his house.
“Corey has been his wife’s caretaker for many years as she had many medical conditions.”
“Everyday not at the firehouse he was taking care of her like no other,” Mr. Morales continued. “After getting the notification we hopped on the rig and headed to his house lights and sirens.”
But when they arrived at the burning house, they found the ‘worst case scenario.’
“There was heavy smoke and fire coming from his house with his wife inside,” he shared. “We did our job and put the fire out and searched as fast as we could but were too late.”
He added: “She passed away as a result of the fire. This is a fireman’s worst nightmare. Not only did he show up first to his house burning, but also lost the love of his life as a result of the fire as well.”
