A Filipino woman working as a maid for a wealthy Saudi family was allegedly tied to a tree as a punishment by her heartless employers.
The woman, Lovely Acosta Baruelo, was tied to a tree under scorching sunlight after a small mistake on her part angered the Middle Eastern family.
The 26-year-old had mistakenly left a piece of expensive furniture outside in sunlight, where it could’ve gotten faded.
A Filipino colleague managed to take photos of the alleged punishment while Lovely was tied by her legs and wrists to a tree trunk in the family’s garden in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The cruel family wanted to show their maid the effects of staying out in the sun.
Thankfully, the mother-of-two was rescued from her abusive employers by the Philippines Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) as soon as her plight emerged online.
Lovely has since returned back to her home in La Union, the Philippines.
A DFA spokesman said: ‘The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) reports that Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) Lovely Acosta Baruelo from Saudi Arabia arrived in Manila at 8:55 p.m. on 9 May 2019.
‘The Philippine Embassy in Riyadh reported that the case of OFW Baruelo was referred to them on 9 May, and she was repatriated on the same day.
‘OFW Baruelo was allegedly punished by her employer by being tied to a tree.’
Lovely’s Filipino co-worker shared the distressing images online and appealed for help from her home country. She also revealed how their employers used to hurt them for small mistakes.
After arriving in the Philippines, Lovely said: ‘Thank you so much to all those who helped me.’
‘I want to also ask help for the other Filipinos left there. They are the ones who helped me and uploaded my pictures. I am afraid for their safety. I hope they get rescued too.’
